Head of AI at Ren Systems

I'm Felipe, an engineer and product builder based in Zürich, Switzerland. Today, I work as Head of AI at Ren Systems, where we build relationship intelligence for dealmakers. As first employee, I've worn almost every technical hat since joining.

I think of myself less as any particular role and more as a generalist builder: of products, systems, and the occasional side project.

Prior to Ren, I studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zürich and completed my PhD in physical chemistry at the Optical Materials Engineering Laboratory, where I studied semiconductor quantum emitters.

About this blog

Writing helps me think more clearly. As long as ideas just exist in my head, it's easy to overlook inconsistencies and walk around with the impression that they're powerful and coherent. Writing them down makes it much easier to iterate, spot gaps, and see where a thought actually leads. I consider myself a builder, not a professional writer, but writing on the side makes me better at my job.

I started this blog as a personal archive and a place to share without the performative nature of social media. Working remotely, it's also a way for colleagues to see what's on my mind. Maybe someone else will learn something interesting, too.

Most of what I post falls into a few formats: short notes with observations or reflections, «blogmarks» where I share a link along with my own thoughts, quotes that stuck with me, and the occasional longer article. I also keep a record of the books that influenced me most, because reading the right book at the right time can accelerate learning like few other things.

Guillemets

You may notice that this site uses guillemets (« ») as quotation marks. In the German-speaking part of Switzerland, guillemets are the standard quotation marks in books, newspapers, and other printed media.

About this site

I built this site on a fork of Simon Willison's fantastic blog, which is open-sourced on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. Thanks to Claude Code, I didn't write a single line of code myself, though without a good understanding of the full stack from HTML to Python to Postgres and deployment, it wouldn't have been possible. I wrote more about how and why I built it in this post.

The site is hosted on Railway in the EU and stores content in PostgreSQL. DNS and CDN are provided by Cloudflare, and images are hosted on Cloudinary.
